No, The EPA Has Not Actually Changed Its Conclusion On Risks Of Fracking To Drinking Water

December 15, 2016

There is an interesting dynamic going on in the final days of the Obama administration. Because President-elect Trump is going to push for fossil fuel-friendly policies, there has been a sudden rush to pass policies that will be out of favor after President Obama leaves office.

For example, despite a request from Alaska that he not further limit oil and gas leasing in offshore Alaska, President Obama just withdrew 40,300 sq miles of the Outer Continental Shelf off western Alaska from oil and gas leasing. This is only one of many decisions that are viewed as hostile by the fossil fuel industry. The thinking seems to be that it will take President Trump some time to undo many of these decisions, slowing the speed of new fossil fuel development once he takes office.
